    Name (Nickname)
    Matt Young
    ManiacZX

    Home Town
Fort Worth for almost 2 years, Detroit area before that but doesn't count

    Birthday (year not required)
    June 8

    Profession
    Software Developer

    Hobbies
    Cars (really?), Basketball, Gaming, Cooking

    Z Cars (past and present)
    Current: 1984 Nissan 300ZX Turbo 50th Anniversary
    First: 1984 Nissan 300ZX

What you most like about the Z Car
It was my first car, most people have a special tie to their first car, I just lucked out that it was a really great one  Smiley.  That through it's 40 years it has always given more expensive cars a run for their money.

What you most like about the Z Club of Texas
Back in 1999 in Michigan when I got my first one, everywhere I looked (forums, Sport Z Magazine, Fresh Alloy, etc) I kept seeing reference to Mad Mike Taylor and the Z Club of Texas.  So when I moved here and bought a Z, I knew I right where to go.

    Anything interesting or strange......
    Look up

The first time I ever saw a Z was in 1995 when I was 12 and my uncle picked me up in his new (to him) 84 300ZX.  We drove from Farmington Hills to Ann Arbor to buy my first computer, about a 70 mile round trip.  At the end of the ride, I looked over at him and said "When I turn 16 I'm buying this car from you".  He just laughed and said "In 4 years this car isn't going to be around anymore" (Michigan winters hadn't been kind).

Four years later, I'd forgotten about the car completely and was trying to figure out what truck I wanted for my first car (hah) when my uncle shows up at my house, hands me the keys and says "It's yours, but I don't know how long it will last".

By that time we estimated it had about 300,000 miles on it (odo stopped in the late 1980s in the 80,000 range) and had seen 15 Michigan winters.

It lasted me about 3 months until I took it to a mechanic to fix a rear brake light wiring issue, the windshield wiper motor and a few other minor items.  He called me back right away and told me he didn't feel comfortable doing any work on my car with the amount of rust.  That my floorboards were almost completely gone, my front shock towers were about to crumble and release the springs, rear ball joints were gone, etc.

Took me 10 years to get out of Michigan and somewhere where I could own and enjoy a Z again for more then a few months out of the year.

    Now I have my 50th Anniversary 1984 300ZX Turbo.

It's a shame your front driver's side fender doesn't still look like that.

Received my 50th AE scale model today.

          Full Album Here

The pictures are unfortunately low quality phone pics since my camera is still at Ed's house.

The engine sound is very cool, I expected a quiet little engine rev sound.  Instead, it has strong volume to it and goes through the sequence of starting, revving a couple times, accelerating to redline through gears 1-3 and probably about half of 4th gear.

In order to have an accurate model of your car, we need to alter the tint on the T-tops, and change the rear license plate number!   Smiley

I'm guessing the reason they are silver on the model is that the anniversary had "mirror finish" t-tops.  Although they aren't quite so mirror finished that they are silver in real life.

Currently there is no license plate on it so at least it isn't the wrong one.

It did come with an alternate swappable exhaust that is a single tip instead of dual tip, so I can make that match up.

. . . . and here is a picture of ManiacZX with a "devil-eyed" look at a recent Texas Tour outing.

Shhh, I cheated and replaced the audio on the video with the recording from my model AE.

The car really does sound very similar to that, but the actual video audio was pretty crappy with the phone mic, all the wind noise, etc.
